Are you living YOUR dream?

As I was floating down the river in a tube yesterday I passed a family on the bank. The mother said, ¨look at you living THE dream¨. I laughed and as I leisurely floated past I thought.. actually I am living MY dream.

I remember for the longest time when someone asked me how I was doing I would say, ¨just living the dream¨, in a slightly sarcastic voice. As if I knew I was stuck in someone else’s interpretation of ¨the dream¨.

It is easy to get caught up in everyone else’s dreams and forget your own. Many of us are raised to believe there is just one dream to be living. The dream of consumerism, accumulation, endless goals, profits, winning, 2.5 kids, college, retirement, yada yada.

It is just as easy not to know what your dreams are made of. Especially with all the outside sources telling you who and what to be.

I spent 7 years working at a brewery not knowing what I wanted in life. All I did know was that I enjoyed the easy money, great friends, and plenty of beer.

In some ways I was waiting for my kids to both be in school to start figuring out what I wanted. The brewery I worked at was extremely conciliatory to mothers with kids and lives of their own. So I allowed my ex to ease into his own career while I worked part time and raised my babes.

Something clicked on when I turned 30. My soul maybe. All of a sudden I knew I needed to get the hell out of the service industry. I also knew that ¨the dream¨ was not going to cut it for me.

I spent hours in solitude weighing my strengths and passions. I knew I wanted to be of service. I wanted ease. I wanted to be my own boss. I wanted pleasure.

A lot of dreams came out of my deep inquiry.

I desired to be in nature as much as possible, so I went camping weekly and then I started a non-profit focused on pooping in the woods.

I wanted to help people, so I started a youtube channel for living the rv life. Then I opened a yoga studio out of my house. Finally I found my own voice and I started coaching women.

I believe in living MY best life, and I believe that you deserve to do the same. I also know that I have certain privileges that not every body has.

But wherever you are in this world, in this life, whatever your body or your income looks like, whoever you decide to be, despite the way you were raised or the culture you were born into..

you have everything you need to slow down and listen to your inner desires.

All it takes is some time alone with you.

You got this
